How To Have A Music Career When You’re An Introvert

I'm an introverted extrovert. In other words, I enjoy being an introvert and love keeping to myself, but that isn't good when you're self-employed, and your income relies on your being an extrovert, hence the reason I am also an extrovert... if I have to be!

So many of us love to sing and dream of being an artist, but so many of us won't push ourselves too far out of our comfort zone because, by nature, we are just introverted people. This does make it difficult for those introverts that want a music career, but that absolutely doesn't mean you still can't have one! Over the years, I have studied in-depth how to build my confidence, communicate with people, and enjoy being around people because I have always just enjoyed my own company.

So I want to share with you 3 things that you can do to help you get out of being an introvert just long enough to do what needs to be done to grow your career in 2022!

1. Separate your personal identity from your business...

Wanna Know The Easiest Platform To Create Artwork?

artwork canva Jan 26, 2022

I get so excited whenever I talk about this platform because it is easily the platform I use the most! And it is absolutely my favourite! AND as a bonus, the couple that created it are Australian, so I cannot sing the praises of this one enough!

Alright, what the hell am I talking about??? I'm talking about a platform that can do almost anything you need for artwork, CD covers, posters, YouTube thumbnails, Facebook banners, Instagram videos, ads, TikTok posts, resumes, cards Merchandise, basically anything!! And the best part is that it is SO freaking easy to use! I am talking about CANVA

I had photoshop there for a while, and I wanted to stab myself in the damn eye; it was that bloody brain draining. But this platform is just so good! I can literally remove the background from an image with one click! I just had to reformat my entire computer just to get adobe off it! So yeah... me and adobe aren't friends.

Indie artists don't generally have much of a...

Do I Need To Market Differently In My Country?

If you've watched any of my videos or have listened to my podcast, then you would catch on pretty quickly that I'm Australian. So a question that I am often asked is, "do I need to market differently because I live in another country?"

The answer is no! And that's how I can help everyone all over the world with the content I create. Marketing, in general, has the same fundamental principles no matter where you are in the world. There are 3 fundamental things that, when implemented, will allow you to market to your audience successfully no matter where you live in the world.

Let's take a look at those 3 things!

1. Know your brand -  What do I mean by this? You have to know what you're selling. You should have a very clear vision as to the kind of artist you are. This includes the way you dress, communicate, and interact with your fans, the genre of music you release in, your beliefs and values, and how you want to portray yourself to the world as an artist.

This Is Why You Should Have A YouTube Channel For Your Music

social media youtube Jan 12, 2022

At the time of writing this, we are in the second week of 2022! Time is moving ultra-fast, and it's time to double down on things that will help grow your music career.

I've had this question a few times over the last year, so I thought I would talk about it and give you my honest opinion, because that's what I do, give you my honest and very down to earth opinion. So, should you have a YouTube channel for your music? YES, you should. When I write these blogs, I like to give you reasons for my thoughts. Usually, I give you 3 or 4, so here are the 3 reasons for having a YouTube channel for your music.

1. YouTube is searchable -  When you create content, it's important to get the most out of every piece you create, and the best way to do that is to create searchable content. What is searchable content? It's content that doesn't disappear, content that is searchable for years to come. So when you create the metadata for your YouTube videos, i.e. the tags and headings...

The 5 Books You Need To Read This Year 📚

personal growth Jan 05, 2022

Ok, disclaimer straight up! I actually don't read.. I can.. but nothing sinks in.. I'll read the same page 3 times and still not know what the hell I have just read. So I have an audible subscription. I listen to audiobooks. For some reason, it sinks in much better. It doesn't really matter how you take in information; what matters is that you do.

I listen to at least 20 books a year plus podcasts! I listen to books on business, mindset, health, music, but mostly personal growth. Listening to these books has completely changed my life. I don't often take the time to stop and look back at the significant difference it has made, but it's absolutely mindblowing when I do.

If I can do it, anyone can. But ya know what? Most won't because it takes time, commitment and effort. The way you live, your mindset, that all comes down to habit. The better your habits, the better your life, and that's why I want to share 5 books that have changed my life! There are many, but these 5 have...

New Years Resolutions Still Suck! Try This Instead!

goals Dec 29, 2021

At the end of last year, I talked about New Year Resolutions, and I said they sucked! This year I am still saying they suck! Now let me explain myself.

I love the idea of resolutions, and I'm all about change and growth. In fact, I live every single day working on being the best version of myself. But I think the term "New Year Resolution" puts an invisible ring of stress around us, making it almost impossible to fulfil any resolution.

Our brains can only cope with so much change. The less, the better! The less, the more likely we will be to fulfil the resolution. So in this blog, I will give you 2 things to try out for the new year that will satisfy your want for a "New Year Resolution" and will give you a far better chance at succeeding.

1. Choose no more than 3 things to focus on. Now, this very much depends on what your resolution is. If it's something like losing 15kgs by eating well and going to the gym, then this really should be your one focus...

What Happens When You Do Wrong In The Music Industry?

industry behaviour Dec 22, 2021

I'm a pretty honest person. I am incredibly loyal and respectful, and I always make sure that I do the best I can for others. So if you piss me off, then you've probably done something pretty bad.

For some reason, I have seen a lot of crap being dished out by artists lately, and I wanted to do this video firstly so that if you are considering doing the wrong thing or mistreating someone, then you can stop and think about it and second, if you have done this, then STOP and think about these 3 things.

I've been saying this forever, the music industry is a very close-knit community, and everyone knows everyone, and people talk! This is a good thing, and it's a bad thing. It's a good thing if you're a good person, but it's a real bad thing if you're a shithead. Bad words spoken about you in the industry will cost you. It may seem like it's worth it at the time, but there will come a time where you will pay for the decisions you make, so I want you to think twice about the...

🧠 Is imposter syndrome killing your music career? This will help!

imposter syndrome mindset Dec 15, 2021

Imposter syndrome, it's a real thing ... and it's a real scary thing too! Imposter syndrome is when you doubt your abilities so much that you feel like a fraud or a fake. Imposter syndrome can kill your confidence, induce crippling self-doubt and self-belief, and it can hold you back substantially in your life.

I get it all of the time! I think most people experience it throughout their life. The difference is learning to recognise it and how we process and deal with it.

Imposter syndrome can kill your motivation, determination and drive, and it can be overall incredibly detrimental to your mental health and career. When you experience imposter syndrome, you won't act. Your fear will block your paths forward. It can stop you from making good business decisions because you might believe you can't make them.

Here are my 3 best tips to help with imposter syndrome:

1. Take note of the wins! This is one thing that I don't do nearly often enough. I am always too busy...

No One Interested In You Or Your Music? This Is Why..

fans target market Dec 08, 2021

Are you targeting the right people? Not everyone is going to like your music. There will be a large number of people that won't like your music, not because it's not good, but because it's not their style, not something they gravitate towards. That's why firstly, identifying who you are as an artist and secondly knowing your target market Is so important. Your target market is the kinds of people that will be drawn to your music and your style.

When you start targeting potential fans who have a reasonable probability of liking your music, you save a lot of time and money, especially when it comes to marketing. On the other hand, your message will get lost if you're targeting anybody and everybody. It's essential to remember quality over quantity. Although we all want as many fans as absolutely possible, we can't afford to get buried in a sea of other artists because we are promoting in the wrong places to the wrong people.

So here are 3 ways to identify the people that will more...

Sky Rocket Your Career By Doing This One Simple Thing

Ok, before I get into this, I want to fully disclose that this idea and lifesaver is the best piece of advice I have ever taken. It comes from Graham Cochrane, the owner of the recording revolution, business coach and entrepreneur.

Now I am well aware that when I give you the advice, most of you will dismiss it, or you’ll have an excuse or reason for why you can’t do it. But this one piece of advice changed the way I do everything, and I credit it to my success and ability to stay focussed, motivated and dedicated to my life goals.

Alright .. here goes! Once a year, plan to get away! Just you, it doesn’t matter where just somewhere away from your usual creative space. This is time for reflecting on the year that has passed and planning the year ahead.

Here’s the thing, we think about achieving something, get super motivated and then the flame burns out, and we spend the rest of the year doing a bit here and there and throwing spaghetti at the wall...
