Don't Make This Mistake..He lost his whole YouTube Channel

Social media is cool .. and it's an important part of growing your profile... BUT .. do not let it be your main focus!

I often talk about email marketing, and sometimes people say.. Nah .. email marketing is dead... but it's not! And I recently watched (in real-time) a great example of WHY we can't build our whole career on any platform... Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube .. NONE of them... why???

Well, let me tell ya ....

CASE STUDY: Wavy Wayne ...

Wavy is a professional audio engineer who has amassed a YouTube following of over 170k people.. yep, and he's got the 100k YouTube silver play button plaque and everything... not one strike against his name.. the perfect YouTuber!

Now I was watching a live stream of his just a few weeks ago and he wasn't himself.. this was just a live stream on Facebook where he has just 3.8k followers. So I thought I would take a moment to see what he was talking about.

It turns out that poor old Wavy Wayne had just received an...

3 Tips On How To Tackle Crippling Nerves

mindset Jun 30, 2021

Whether you're heading into an audition, or you are doing a radio interview, or you're on stage performing, nerves can be completely debilitating!

Nerves literally turn me into the worst singer in the room. Most of my vocal skill comes from the ability to support my voice and use my techniques well, so when this system fails me, I am left with just the sound of my voice to impress people and unfortunately, I wasn't born with a tone that is .. well let's say hugely appealing.

So I have spent years and years getting to a point where I can control my nerves. Now I am not suggesting that you put in years of work to get to that point, but I do have 3 tips that will help you calm your nerves enough to get you through with a great outcome.

Nerves will suck the talent out of you if you let them! So here are my 3 favourite tips/pieces of advice that I have collected over the years to help me control my nerves. When you start to implement these, you will notice a huge difference!

3 Reasons Why Making Excuses Kills Your Music Career

mindset Jun 23, 2021

Ok, I know I will probably be in trouble for this one, but I feel compelled to write it because there was a time that I was the queen of making excuses for why I wasn't successful, why I hadn't done what I said I was going to, why I procrastinate. You name the excuse, and I have used it.

It wasn't until I started taking responsibility and living proactively that I was able to see results. But, of course, we all do it some time or another; I think it's human nature to make excuses for not doing something, for things not going right etc. But at what point are those excuses holding you back?

I see it often, especially in the music industry. But, if you can take a moment to ask yourself what the real reason is for you not completing a task or not succeeding, you can start to change your career path.

Here are 3 reasons for putting a stop to making excuses!

1. You're Convincing Yourself That There Is No Problem:
When you make an excuse for why you can't do something, or you haven't...

3 Tips For A Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

crowdfunding marketing Jun 16, 2021

Crowdfunding is a fantastic way to involve your fans and raise funds needed to move your music career forward. I think that sometimes it can have that stigma of "asking for money," but to me, this never made sense because all you are doing is basically asking your fans to pre-order your project.

I have completed one crowdfunding campaign where the target was $5000, which ended with a little over $6000. I did a few things to make sure that it was going to be successful, and I want to share 3 of those tips with you.

Before I get into those, I suggest that you do some research on the best crowdfunding platform. Some platforms won't release the funds you make if you don't reach your goal amount, meaning that you have put a lot of time and effort in and won't receive anything in return. Check out the platform's fees and how much they will take from your project so you can make sure it is worth it.  Lastly, check out the other campaigns on the platform, how they are set...

What Is A Music License And What Do They Do?

Music licensing is a fairly common term we hear in the music industry, but what is it?

I get asked this question a lot because it is a confusing topic.

Think of a music license as a way for you to make money. A license gives someone legal permission to use your work.  There are several different licenses available, but today I will talk about what I believe to be the 4 main ones.

Synchronisation License (sync license):
This is one that I will be talking a lot about in the future because it's an excellent way for independent artists to make some great money! I now focus my time and energy on recording music specifically for the purpose of sync licensing.

A sync license is a license purchased for pairing music with some form of visual media, e.g. commercials, films, advertisements, video games and more.

When a song is licensed for synchronisation, the writer/composer receives a fee for the composition. If you wrote the song...

If You Are In Debt Read This!

finance Jun 02, 2021

I do a lot of reading! Actually, I'm not particularly eager to read, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. However, in particular, a few have completely changed my life, and today I want to talk about the most simple finance book I have ever listened to that completely changed my life. With my husband and I both being completely self-employed, if we can work out our finances following this book, then I really think anyone can.

Do you seem to have mounting debt and can't really see a way forward with your money? There was a time when I was like this, in fact, it was probably most of my life until I started to make money, but as I did that, I found that I spent more! So it wasn't until about 4 years ago when I kept seeing in every single mother's group or finance group on Facebook talking about this book called "The Barefoot Investor" by Scott Pape. Every time someone would ask a question to do with budgets, money or debt, without a doubt, this book came up!

I had known for a...

Make A Six-Figure Income From Music With 1000 True Fans!

I like to look at all of my goals mathematically... even though I have always despised maths, I do take comfort in the numbers when I feel like my goal might be a little unrealistic. So I want to show what I mean by breaking down the math!

So you want to make money in the music industry? How much do you need to make? Well, for me, I know that I need to make a six-figure income to be able to do music full time. Now that sounds like a lot. But, broken down, it's really not.

There is a concept that was created over a decade ago by Kevin Kelly, who has since revised his concept and is proven to be still relevant today, and I love it! It's called "1000 True Fans" I like to refer to them as your super fans! All you need to do is gather 1000 true fans throughout your career, and you can earn a comfortable six-figure income.

What is a true fan? A true fan is a fan that buys everything you have. They go to every single show, and they pre-order everything you have! With...

Turn Social Media Followers Into Income Producing Fans!

Social media can be a tough game! Especially because of the ever-changing algorithms, it is incredibly challenging to build your fan base on social media (this is why I am such a fan of email marketing).

However, you can build a genuine, loyal fan base on social media with the intent of funnelling them down into your email list.

Social media should not be the beginning and end of your whole marketing strategy. It is not reliable enough. You don't own your fan base! I have said it many times! You could build a fan base of 2 million people on TikTok, and next week Tiktok could pull the plug, and with that plug will go your 2 million followers.

BUT, social media can be a very effective tool when it is used as a funnel. What do I mean used as a funnel? Well, social media creates a lot of opportunities for you to gain new fans. By connecting with your fans consistently, loving on them and developing a great relationship with them, you want to eventually use...

What Is A Music Distribution Deal?

distribution May 12, 2021

I know industry terminology can get pretty confusing; it took a long time for me to learn what a distribution deal was; although it may seem like an easy one, it is generally a term used but not understood.

Distribution is exactly what it sounds like.. you are distributing a product, in this case, your music, so it is the distribution of your music to either digital stores or physical stores (if you are selling physical copies).

Now... this is where it gets tricky.. distribution deals! You can send it to a distribution house like CDBaby, DistroKid, or TuneCore to release your music. There are tons of companies that will distribute your music to all of the digital platforms. Being able to distribute your own music cuts out the middle-man, and you get to keep all of your profits, aside from the fees charged by the distribution house. Some of these platforms, like TuneCore or Amazon, will also distribute your physical copies.

Now, distribution deals! Broken down...

How To Find The Right Producer For You

recording May 05, 2021

Finding a producer for me was like trying to find a life partner... that might seem a bit much, lol, but it indeed was, and there are a few reasons for that.

When you decide to record music, it's a huge commitment both financially and emotionally. I want to talk about your emotions a little bit here because while they can be a great thing to keep you motivated and on track, they can also help you make some abysmal decisions.

So I have a few questions here that you need to ask before choosing your producer.

Firstly, get a list of producers together that you are looking at using. Once you have got your list, start contacting them.

Aside from making sure that they are in your budget, I want you to ask some questions.

  1. Does this producer have any work that I can listen to? If so, do I like the sound of it? Because if you don't like the sound of it, then you aren't going to like what they do for you.
  2. Does this producer seem genuinely interested in my...
