Are You Too Old To Release Music?

age career Apr 21, 2021

Can you start a music career when you are older? Sure you can, and so many are doing it too!

Firstly the most important thing is to define your goals... ask yourself the question... If I start my music career, what is it that I want to achieve from it? Knowing what you want from your music career will help steer you onto the right path. Having strong goals and ideas will help you grow your career faster.

I know many older people who have been in the same job for years, waking up doing the same thing day after day and one day, they realise that this probably isn't what they want to do for the rest of their life. That's when their dream kicks in, and they decide to go for it.

I honestly believe, and from everything I have learnt, I can see that it absolutely is possible to start a successful music career when you are older. Sure, it's nice to be young and ready to take on the world, but being older has many benefits, such as maturity, finance, better...

How To Make Your Brand Make You Money!

brand career marketing money Aug 30, 2020

So we know that a brand is everything that you encompass as an artist, and I always babble on about how important it is to grow your brand. Well, there is a reason for that! Your brand is worth money! If you purchase a house, more often then not,  you will build equity over the years that you own the property. Just like the equity in your home, you can build equity into your brand.

Yep, that's right! Your brand is an asset! Meaning, it works to bring you the dollars! Here is an example:

Artist A is an extremely talented artist who engages really well with a crowd, can sing like no one else on the planet and has a polished overall look, but, not many people know him as he doesn't market himself or concentrate on the growth of his business, he prefers to focus on his craft.

Artist B is a decent artist, who engages with the crowd, vocals are ok, but they are unique, and the overall look is pretty good. They aren't as talented as Artist A and haven't been playing...

This Is Why Plan B Sucks!

If you're like most musicians, the one question we are asked .. like .. a lot.. is "So .. do you have a plan B?" I have worked very hard on the perfect response to this unbelievably annoying question. My answer is "I'm too busy working on my plan A to even consider a Plan B"

Now, I must admit, being a mum myself, every part of me hopes that if my children want to follow in my footsteps, that they would have a plan B. It also takes every part of me to remember that I want what is best for them, not what society has taught us to think is best for them.

I believe that you don't need a plan B but only if you understand the following things:

You need a strong plan A. I don't like to waste my time planning a backup plan, I want to spend all of my creative energy planning my future, doing what I love. My favourite saying is "Failing to plan, is planning to fail". This is so true. When I talk about having a plan (and I talk about it a lot), it's so you have a strategy to follow,...

5 Easy Ways To Increase Your Fan Base Now

To be successful in business, you need an audience to sell to; every business needs clientele. Who is a musician's clientele? It's our fans. Without fans, we wouldn't be able to have a profitable career. Your Music is a business, and we need to treat it as one. Aside from always creating, we also need to be always promoting, building your brand and growing your fan base.

Certain things need to be put into place to guarantee the growth of your fanbase, and beyond implementing these, you also need to be consistent. Without consistency, there is little to no hope of growing your fan base.

1. Know who you are and who your target audience is. Knowing who I was and who my target audience is, took me a very long time to learn but knowing who you are as an artist will then allow you to focus on who your target audience is. Why is your target audience so important? Remember, you are looking for potential fans that will be interested in your style of music,...

3 Things You Might Experience When You Are Not Being Yourself

I've tried to be just about everyone else other than myself, and it wasn't until I decided just to be me did things start to happen for me. It took most of my life to be ok with being myself, but when I kept failing at trying to be someone else I realised, maybe I'm doing something wrong. It turns out that being yourself is actually the easiest one to choose. In fact, it's the only one you're qualified to be!.

When you live your life trying to be anyone but yourself you run the risk of creating a version of you that no one, including yourself, will like, and that can have a negative impact on your overall health.

Here is what you might feel if you're trying to be someone else:

1. You might feel like a fraud. I thought if I just copied their music style, or her look, her sound, their Instagram page or their personality then maybe people will like me, it's working for them right? Yes, it was working for them, but when I tried to do it, it felt weird, it...

Don't Do This During The COVID-19

You can choose to be impacted or impactful, but just remember, every choice we make has consequences, good or bad.

We all know that it is a difficult time in life at the moment, for the entire world, but if you choose to stop, give up, not move forward and choose the negative path or mindset, then this will have an impact on your brand.

Consistency Really Is Key!

Consistency really is key! Key to what? I guess if you think about it, consistency is key to success in everything and maybe that is why it is so hard to stay consistent, no matter what your goals are.

We often wait until motivation strikes to work on our goals, then once motivation is done, we take a long break, and it's this lack of consistency that interrupts our workflow and in the long run, leads to unfulfillment in goals and our lives.

BUT! Did you know that if you practice being consistent, then it eventually becomes a habit, once something is a habit, it becomes easy!.

One of my favourite books is called "The Power Of Habit" it changed my perspective on consistency, motivation and procrastination.

There are a few ways to ensure that you are successful in creating consistency within your music business.
